REMODEL: For a greener, sustainable and inclusive future.

Food industry produces a substantial amount of waste, which poses a significant industrial problem that necessitates efficient management to reduce its environmental impact. Inadequate waste management is a contributing factor to climate change. REMODEL project aims to increase awareness of the environmental impact of agri-food production.

This includes the use of natural resources such as water, land, and energy, as well as greenhouse gas emissions from production processes and waste. The project aims to promote the conscious use of waste from the agri-food chain by reusing it to obtain products with higher added value. These products may have applications in the nutraceutical, food, and pharmaceutical fields. For this purpose, a methodology with low environmental impact was adopted, using supercritical CO2 extraction to extract molecules with potential bioactivity. The project also aims to support researchers by providing scientific data on the extracted molecules, facilitating research into new drugs or the development of wellness products. By facilitating interaction through an interactive web platform, REMODEL encourages knowledge sharing to both experts and non-experts, collaboration and service provision, addressing industrial, environmental, social and economic challenges related to food waste.

Mission and vision

Mission : REMODEL aims to promote sustainable innovation through the re-use of agri-food waste in a green approach, using supercritical CO2 extraction to obtain high quality biomolecules with potential applications in the nutraceutical, food and pharmaceutical sectors. REMODEL promotes open sharing of data and results on our web platform to educate and engage both expert and non-expert audiences. REMODEL raise awareness of circular economy and its positive impact on the environment, society and economy.

Vision : Contributing to a future in which the intelligent reuse of agri-food waste becomes the norm, for a more sustainable and equitable society, is one of the long-term goals that REMODEL project aims to achieve. Through an innovative and user-friendly platform, we aim to create a global community of experts, enthusiasts and interested stakeholders, in order to establish future promising collaborations, as well as foster an open science approach for knowledge sharing. REMODEL wants to be a facilitator for the adoption of green practices and progress towards a world where the circular economy is a key pillar, ensuring a healthier environment, an inclusive society and lasting economic prosperity.
